Background:
Mario D. Bellissimo is a graduate of
Osgoode Hall Law School and a founding associate of Ormston, Bellissimo,
Rotenberg.
Areas of Practice:
For the past several years Mr. Bellissimo
has practised exclusively in the area of immigration, refugee and
citizenship law. Mr. Bellissimo is a Certified Specialist in Citizenship
and Immigration Law and Refugee Protection.
Professional Experience:
Mr. Bellissimo represents clients in
Canada and throughout the world. His practice is focused primarily on
litigation. In addition, he acts for clients before many visa posts on
family class, business, skilled worker and temporary residence
applications. In Canada, he represents all types of immigration and
refugee cases including humanitarian applications and in-land
sponsorships, deportation proceedings, and detention reviews. Mr.
Bellissimo has appeared before all levels of immigration tribunals and
courts including the Immigration Appeal Board, the Federal Court of
Canada, the Federal Court of Appeal and the Supreme Court of Canada in Hilewitz and De Jong.
Professional Activities:
Mr. Bellissimo remains committed to the
educative aspects of the law and teaches several courses, writes
extensively on legal issues and is heard regularly on Toronto radio
discussing immigration law and policy. Mr. Bellissimo is the
Co-Editor-in-Chief of ImmQuest, a national monthly immigration
publication produced by Thomson, Carswell and Co-Editor in Chief of the
Immigration Law Reporter. He is also the immigration columnist for 24
Hours Newspaper.
Mr. Bellissimo also develops curriculum
for the University of British Columbia/Seneca College Immigration
Practitioner Diploma Program and assists as a lecturer. Mr. Bellissimo
has served as a speaker on varied immigration issues for the Bar
Association and other professional and community organizations. Mr.
Bellissimo is further involved in policy and practice development.
He acts as National Immigration Law and
Policy Advisor for COSTI Immigration Resettlement Services. He sits on
multiple stakeholder committees including the Immigration Appeal
Division (IAD) Joint Committee, the Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR)
Consultative Committee, and the OBA/DOJ/Federal Court Immigration
Committee as member of both the Ontario and National Immigration Section
Executive.
